If you like plenty of healthy activities in a safe, clean environment then you will like Foster City. It is a man-made island-of-islands filled with parks, trails, lagoons and canals. Water Sports
Water sports abound. Besides several beautiful sand swimming beaches there are excellent rental facilities for everything from paddle boards & boats, to electric boats, to wind surfing and even kite surfing. They provide good lessons too! E.g., see the lagoon map where several activities are shown. Also see pictures.
Trail Sports
The most popular segment of the San Francisco Bay Trail bounds the northern and eastern sides of town and then heads south to Redwood Shores and north to the SF Airport. It is a multi-use trail that is paved for walking, biking, or skating.
There are many other trails, boardwalks, and nature paths in the park system. The residential streets are quiet too so biking is a good way to get around.
Parks & Other Sports
The 21 well-developed, well-maintained parks are full of facilities to enjoy including plenty of tennis & basketball courts, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, and even a nice bocce ball court and skateboard park adjacent the main Foster City Recreation Center. Of course there are plenty of places to picnic.
There are a wide variety of exercise classes and other organized activities (e.g., Senior, youth, etc.) at the Recreation Center and the Peninsula Jewish Community Center just across the street. At the northern tip of town is a 9-hole golf course with a nice double-decker driving range.
Special Events
Foster City has many special events & fairs to attend. You can watch fireworks, listen to summer concerts, join outrigger canoe clubs, watch world-championship radio controlled model boat races, or check out art festivals. The best way to find them is to check our best events list and calendar.
Food & Shops
If food and shopping are your activities of choice some good options are available. Check our food page & map and our shopping page & map. There are not many night spots but plenty of everything else is nearby.
Clubs
There is a wide variety of social and service organizations for adults to enjoy. Between the regular meetings and special events they run there is always plenty to do.
