Foster City is a man-made island of islands with over 16 miles of navigable canals weaving through it. The crown jewel featuring many water sports is the beautiful lagoon in Leo Ryan Park. A variety of water-related activities are shown on the lagoon map. Also see some water sport pictures.
At the lagoon are facilities where you can rent such toys as paddle boards, paddle boats, kayaks, and windsurf boards. Your group can even rent a large electric powered Duffy boat. This setting turns out to be one of the best places in the world for learning basic wind surfing. Out on Third Ave, just south of the golf course & driving range, more serious adventurers can learn how to kiteboard.
Special water events occur all the time too. For example, there are two large canoe clubs you can join … the Bay Area Dragon Boat Club and the Outrigger Canoe Racing Club. Sailboat races, real and model sailboats, are common too. For example the International One Metre (IOM) radio controlled model yacht championships. During the summer “pick up” wind surfing races are often held during the week.
If you don’t want to swim in Central Lake, also known as the lagoon, then several beautiful sandy swimming beaches can be found in some of Foster City’s 21 beautiful parks. These beaches are nice, quiet and protected. Most also have plenty of green grass and childrens playgrounds too.
