World-Class Kiteboarding
Baywinds Park, Foster City
Here serious kiteboarders enjoy some of the most consistent & steady wind in the San Francisco Bay Area. There are very few “no wind” days during summer season when the Central Valley heats up and sucks in cooler air from the Pacific Ocean almost every day. This steady wind builds evenly throughout the day peaking in the late afternoon to evening. Average kite size is 9.0 to 12.0 (for guys).
The renovated park site (which used to be called East Third Ave Park) is very convenient and nice for kiteboarding too! It’s located near the intersection of the SF Bay Trail & Highway 92, just east of Mariner’s Point Golf Course. See Map below. In 2014 Foster City spent over $850,000 improving the park with new restrooms, rinse stations and a resurfaced parking lot immediately adjacent a new synthetic turf area. Since the park is right on the bayfront getting your kiteboard or windsurf gear from the car into the bay is quick and easy, also a big plus.
Various concessionaires providing kiteboarding rentals and lessons are can be found here; call ahead to confirm availability. They also provide windsurfing equipment but beginners will find much better conditions for learning windsurfing at the Foster City Lagoon.
